The race for the top seat at the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) intensified as the outgoing vice-chairman James Mureu launched his campaign drive in Mombasa County. Mr Mureu who also served the Chamber as the Mombasa Chapter County Chairman told the business community at Wild Waters, Nyali that he was fully aware of the great responsibilities and expectations from the country. He expressed confidence that he is a worthy contender for the Chairman position, “I have no doubt in my mind that I have what it takes in my mind that I have the traction, foresight and commitment to drive this Chamber to the next level.” Among his successes, Mr Mureu has been able to build the Mombasa KNCCI Chapter from scratch to one of the model centers of excellence amongst the 47 counties. Grain Bulk Handlers Limited (GBHL) Mr Mohammed Jaffer, said the Chamber had played a great role in improving the business environment in the Country and expressed confidence in Mr Mureu to take it to even greater heights as the President. Under his leadership, Mombasa County Government Executive for Trade and Tourism Fawz Rashid said the county government has accomplished outstanding milestones, including the digitalization of services, automation of single business permit among others. Mr Fawz said Mr Mureu has awesome capabilities when given support will help Kenya achieve greater things, compete with stronger economies. The firm, fair and result oriented businessman reiterated that he will continue to fearlessly advocate for the private sector space, to make them known.
